Clay & Glaze
A mother-daughter pottery workshop, given a brand as handmade as its work.
01 · Overview
The project
Clay & Glaze began as a mother-daughter pottery workshop in Pondicherry and became an online business during COVID. The identity had to feel the way the work does: handmade, warm, and as useful as it is beautiful.
- Objective
- An identity that communicates handmade craftsmanship, warmth and the balance between aesthetics and utility.
- Direction
- Raw, earthy, calm and passionate. Organic forms, imperfect symmetry and nature-inspired visual elements.
- Scope
- Logo system, colour palette, typography, imagery direction, patterns and textures, brand voice, business card, thank-you card and tote bag.
02 · Brand story
From clay to soul.
The design story sits between two states of the same material: the tactile imperfection of raw clay and the refined finish of glaze. Before the mark, the brand found its voice: not a shop for objects, but a studio for small daily rituals, one that whispers rather than shouts.
03 · Identity system
Three ideas, one mark.
Three routes were explored: the four elements of the craft as a grid, the pot held by fire, and a legacy seal. The final mark brings the vessel and the seal together, with the C&G seal at its heart, built on golden-ratio circles for balance and calm.

04 · Collateral
The seal on everything it touches.
The C&G seal works as a maker's mark, stamped into the clay itself, and the full mark carries across print, packaging, fabric and the storefront.
05 · Final outcome
The brand, together
A living story: tactile, warm, unmistakably Clay & Glaze.
